Agency Profile

Criterion Child Enrichment, is a private, non-profit agency that was founded in 1985 by its President, Robert F. Littleton, Jr. The agency is dedicated to the provision of high quality early childhood education and support to families with young children. In the 30 plus years, since its establishment, the agency has grown from two programs in Milford and Framingham to 12 programs strategically located throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Each year, approximately 7,000 families are served by a highly qualified, dedicated staff of over 350 professionals.

Each Criterion program is lead by a local Program Director with extensive experience working with young children and their families. Program Directors are responsible for program development, community involvement, staff supervision and daily program operations. A strong central administration comprised of a Chief Operating Officer, Director of Early Childhood Operations and Director of Professional Development, works under the direction of the President and Board of Directors. Program and policy development, financial management, clinical guidance and professional development activities are provided to Criterion programs by its central administration. Additionally, Criterion management personnel provide consultation and training support for other early childhood providers and participate in numerous state wide advisory activities.

Criterion programs are designed to respond to the specific needs and characteristics of the communities each serves. Program administrators participate in local early childhood provider networks to enhance the quality of services offered throughout the community. Criterion programs' active community involvement enables effective collaboration with other programs and providers to insure high quality, comprehensive services for their enrolled families.

Respect for family culture and values is given primary consideration when developing individualized programs for young children. The agency makes it a priority to recruit staff reflective of the cultural and linguistic groups it serves. An emphasis on cultural awareness and sensitivity is part of the training that each Criterion employee receives. Staff are encouraged to develop an understanding of various cultures and to incorporate cultural values and beliefs into service delivery.
