Welcome Family is located in the Springfield and Holyoke communities!
Welcome Family, a program of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and funded by HRSA/MCHB, is partnering with Baystate Medical Center to offer a one-time visit from a nurse who is experienced in supporting moms and newborns.
If you live in Springfield or Holyoke or delivered your newborn at Baystate Medical Center and live in a surrounding Massachusetts community, then you are eligible for a free home visit or phone call from a Welcome Family nurse up to eight weeks postpartum. The program is for any mom with a newborn regardless of income, age, or how many children you’ve had before.
During your visit, you’ll have up to 90 minutes with an experienced nurse who understands what you’re going through and who is there to answer your questions. You and your newborn will receive a clinical assessment, and you’ll get information about:
• Baby’s weight and health
• Calming your baby
• Eating well to keep you and your newborn healthy
• Feeding your baby, including lactation consultation
• Becoming a new parent
• Community resources
In addition to the visit, you will receive a follow-up phone call 2-3 weeks later, as well as a Welcome Family gift bag with useful items and information for you and your baby.
